Waiver and Assumption of Risk Form
I hereby assume any and/or all risk of loss, liability, damage or costs, including bodily injury or property damage or death that may incur during my participation at the Writers’ Police Academy (WPA) event taking place June 2-5, 2022.
I fully understand the terms set forth in this form, and I hereby waive my rights to file cause of action(s) or claim(s) which I may have against the Writers’ Police Academy LLC and its agents, volunteers, staff, instructors, owners, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley, Fox Cities Exhibition Center, and their agents, volunteers, staff, instructors, and event sponsors. I unconditionally, freely, and voluntarily waive and discharge my right without any inducement, assurance, or guarantee being made to me to the fullest extent allowed by law.
The Writers’ Police Academy features actual first responder and other law enforcement-based training. Therefore, I fully understand it is for my safety and the safety of others that I am expected to and must follow all rules and regulations and instructions, both oral and written, set forth by the Writers’ Police Academy, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Red Lion Hotel Paper Valley, Fox Cities Exhibition Center, and their staff, volunteers, and instructors and agents.
I also understand that the Writers’ Police Academy is a “weapons-free” event and that I may not at any time bring, carry, or possess a personal weapon of any type while on the grounds of the entire property or in any off-campus meeting room or other venue where WPA workshops, classes, and sessions take place, including WPA event hotel meeting rooms, hallways, and parking lots, buses or other means of transportation during WPA activities.
The definition of “weapon” includes but is not limited to: firearms, edged weapons (knives, including pocketknives of any size and length, daggers, swords, etc.), chemical sprays (pepper spray, mace, etc.), electronic stun devices, throwing stars and other weapons associated with the martial arts, etc. I further understand that I may be required to submit myself and all personal items to a scan by a metal detector wand prior to entering NWTC property and/or other WPA activities, including but not limited to the event hotel, hallways, and parking lots, buses or other means of transportation during WPA activities.
It is further understood that video recordings are not permitted at any time during the Writers’ Police Academy event. Photographs are permitted, with the permission of instructors. Absolutely no exceptions. WPA workshops, classes, and other sessions contain actual law enforcement training, procedures, and tactics; therefore, it is imperative that the material not fall into the hands of those who could use the knowledge against law enforcement. Again, please ask for permission prior to the taking of photographs. NO VIDEOS at any time.
Any violation of the “no weapons” or “no video recording” policy, and/or failure to adhere to safety instructions provided by NWTC instructors or WPA staff is cause for immediate dismissal from the event. No refunds. No exceptions.
