Ryan Peterson has 14 years full-time law enforcement experience. He previously worked for the Sun Prairie Police Department and Fox Valley Metro Police Department. During that time, he was a SWAT team member, Officer in Charge for second shift, field training officer, evidence technician, firearms instructor and tactical emergency casualty care instructor.
In 2017, Ryan joined the Appleton Police Department where he became the Threat Assessment Officer within the department’s Special Investigations Unit. He was later deputized as a Task Force Officer for the US Marshals assisting in fugitive apprehension in Northeast Wisconsin.
Ryan was tasked with creating and implementing active shooter response courses for all Appleton Officers while serving as the Threat Assessment Officer. He was later promoted to Patrol Lieutenant where he was assigned to oversee third shift patrol. He taught criminal justice classes as an adjunct instructor with Fox Valley Technical College from 2016-2022.
In August 2022, Ryan became a full-time criminal justice instructor with NWTC. He teaches in both the law enforcement academy as well as the criminal justice associate degree program.
